The NREMT has updated the EMT cognitive exam to better reflect what EMTs actually do in the field. Instead of the older domain categories, the exam now tests across five key real-world areas. Pediatric content is integrated across all domains, so you’ll need to be prepared for patients of all ages.
Scene Size-Up and Safety
Learn how to assess any scene for hazards, secure your own safety, and make fast, informed decisions before patient contact even begins. This includes understanding the chain of communication, managing bystanders, and identifying when additional help is needed
Primary Assessment
This section focuses on first-contact patient evaluation. You’ll learn how to assess airway, breathing, circulation, and level of consciousness using systematic methods. The goal: quickly identify life threats and begin immediate interventions.
Secondary Assessment
